Talking about small stream fishing probably won't raise your blood pressure like sharing tales of deep-sea fishing might. Catching a string of small fish in the quiet of a woodsy small stream might not seem to hold much challenge. However spending a little time with a small stream fisherman could open your eyes to some great fishing experiences.

To a dedicated fisherman, dropping a line in any kind of water is worthwile but techniques are different for each type of fishing. If you require lots of high paced action than the relaxed small steam fishing adventure might not appeal to you at first.

Fast paced bass fishermen with their high powered bass boats might consider this grandpop fishing. They may be right. This is the best type of fishing experience to get young children started.

Let's discuss some of the things you need to consider to get the most from a small steam fishing trip.

Small stream fishing requires a more or less special rig. You want your rig to be really light and it must be flexible. Remember these will be mostly smaller fish so power is not necessary but agility is.

Because you will in many instances have to walk and carry your gear long distances to reach a good stream, the less weight you carry is important and a light rig helps here also.

Keep your line size in mind. It will have to be strong but not so bulky that it frightens the fish away.

You don't need a high powered boat and loads of expensive fishing gear to fully enjoy small stream fishing. There is always something to be said for a more relaxed fishing experience now and then. Like any other activity in life sometimes you just need to relax and clear your mind while enjoying your favorite sport.

Walking back to the car with your next meal on a stringer will surely add to the pleasure. Many small streams will be less polluted and clear and offer fish much safer to eat.

You can probably leave your camera and fish scale at home. In most cases you won't be landing trophies. But you can never tell.

We mentioned earlier of the advantages of this type of fishing as an introduction to small kids. One of the big advantages is that there is less risk. Youngsters can easily get caught up in the action and forget about using caution. There is usually far less risk involved in these small streams. Many times these steams are not crowded and you can fully enjoy the attention of your young charges.

You should however, be aware that when you bring kids along you're not as likely to catch many fish. Fishing with one or more lively youngsters may keep you from your best fishing because they can be noisy and inquisitive and keep you busy answering questions.

But you will build memories that will last a lifetime and start those youngsters on a journey that will bring them years of pleasure even after they began to teach their youngsters the joys of dropping a line in a small remote stream.

While you may never come back from a small stream with stories that will keep your salt water fishing buddies interested for long, you just might rediscover a type of fishing that you enjoyed as a youngster and forgot about as you became involved in much more sophisticated fishing adventures.
